Carbon Capture and Storage

The other day I was reading an article in the paper about carbon capture and storage. Apparently I have been living under a rock because I had not heard of that concept before. Its about taking in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, storing it containers and then burying it deep into the ground safely. Wow that's really cool considering all the climate change stuff that has been going around.
Even thou we as a civilization are trying to reduce our carbon footprint, it doesn't look like its happening at a fast enough pace.

So concept seems like a life saver to me or for that matter humanity. But from what I read its really expensive and companies cannot do it without government subsidies. The governments don't think its worth the cost. And I'm like WTF?

Is it worth spending billions of $$ on space missions rather that research on carbon capture and storage? I feel we should first try to save our own planet rather than to go look for whats out there. There is a saying, I don't know where it is from but makes total sense in this case " Charity begins at home" People should do what they can to save planet earth first and then go exploring on other planets out there. This makes more sense to me. I may be wrong. But if there is a better explanation to this, I'm all ears.

Christmas once more

Christmas once more and I'm feeling good. Top of the world like the way I should- Naahh not really. Just some words from a Christmas carol playing on the radio the other day. Yes its that time of the year again. Light are up on the houses, malls are decorated, radios are playing the songs, Christmas sales and shopping, Christmas food, Christmas alcohol blah blah blah. Everywhere you go you can see it. You just cant avoid it even if you want to. So do what I do. Just go with the flow. Everything everywhere around you has the world Christmas in it. Seriously!! It can be a bit exciting and overwhelming at the same time if your seeing it for the first time.

Among all the lights and glitter, the other day I was just wondering do some of the people even know that somewhere in there, Christmas is about Jesus. We celebrate it because he was born on that day or so they say. Whats is the connection between christmas lights on sale and Jesus. Or for that matter eggnog and clothes and Jesus. Well I don't know. If someone out there does please do tell me.

All this christmassy stuff is all well and good. It makes it fun. But we shouldn't forget the essence of what Christmas is all about. Jesus. Its not just about who has the best decorated house on the street or going for dances and stuff. Its about something much much more. Give it a thought .

Driving in Canada

They say driving is not a right but a privilege. And if you have driven on Indian roads you can drive anywhere in the world. Let me tell you that it is not that easy. Out here as compared to India you have rules to follow and blind spots to check before you turn. When you break any rule you cant just bribe a Pandu ( Indian Policemen)  Rs 100 and get away with it.

There are some things I find a little odd. Like attending in class sessions. I must admit I did find it odd at first and the laughs I got from people back home, OMG. but I did learn some useful things in those classes. Stuff I would have eventually got to know through experience. But its better to be safe than sorry I guess. A little extra knowledge never hurt anyone.

Another thing I found odd was the signalling system at intersection. Turning on red lights, turning on green when oncoming traffic has green, it can all be a bit confusing for a person coming from outside. Well but at least people follow the signals out here. If its 6 in the morning when not a soul is around or during rush hour. The rules are followed. I cant say the same thing for the other cities I have been in.

I haven't found it easier driving out here as compared to India not matter what people may say. There are so many things you have to unlearn and learn again. More than driving there are so many other things to keep in mind. But I guess its all for the benefit and safety for all around. As they say " When in Rome do as the Romans " or in this case " When in Canada, Do as the Canadians "

My Canadian Experience

NO this blog is not about my  experience of moving to Canada as a whole. Its about the Canadian Experience they ask you during a job interview. When they asked me to introduce my self I say I recently moved to Canada and blah blah blah. And then the interview goes on as usual. And then I get asked about my Canadian experience and I dont know weather the guy across the table is mocking or asking me a serious question. I'm the type of guy who gives stupid answers to stupid questions. I told him in my country we are not born with Canadian experience , I dont know how it is over here. If a guy doesn't get his first Canadian job how the hell is he going to get that so called Canadian Experience.A person has to start somewhere right.

I got some clarity on the matter when I read this article by Mark Swartz
 http://career-advice.monster.ca/job-hunt-strategy/getting-started/canadian-experience-ca/article.aspx.

This article is about the whole Canadian experience funda. Happy Reading.

My first encounter with snow

And the journey continues

The Journeyman's journey has now bought him to Canada. New life and new challenges. Finding a job, settling down blah blah blah. Well all that takes time I hear. the immediate challenge for anyone coming in from the sub continent to Canada is getting used to the cold. And Bloody hell it is cold. Anyone who does decide to make the transition come prepared. come very prepared..

Stupid questions...

.
the other day i had gone out with a couple of friends to eat steak at Martins(small goankar joint in colaba)..well we reached late and the steak was over..so we walked all the way to baghdadi...the fired chicken and gravy over there is to die for...so we ordered fired chicken..and half way through the chicken one friend looks up and asks "HEY IS THIS MUTTON OR CHICKEN???"..this just left everyone else at the table myself included stumped..and this without even drinking..imagine wat would have come out  2 pegs down..

next question-everyone probably remembers that really cold winter mumbai had a couple of years back..coldest in whatever decades..well, this same fellow one day asked."HEY IF GLOBAL WARMING IS TAKING PLACE WHY IS IT SO COLD???"....

how stupid can you get

It never seems to amaze me how stupid people can act sometimes...this evening on the road there were a bunch of people campaigning for this candidate...it was a narrow road, they had kinda blocked it and created a traffic jam..there were drums, loud speakers, fire crackers, the works,as if they had already won the election...to top it off it was in front of a hospital building...imagine doing that in front of a hospital..how stupid can people get...and here is the icing on the cake-the candidate was a DOCTOR  himself...wat a dumbass...

Return Of The King-written by nigel affonso

He was back from the land of the sand dunes n sun
with all the vigor n life, of a 10yr old young gun.
He gave me a call n spoke of a reunion
in the Sunlit place of the comrades n companions

It was with regret, dat i said i'd be away
busy n occupied with art fer many a day.
a reunion on those days wud be impossible fer me
fer other things played on, in my mind, u see

but before u kno it, my mind was on track,
to show respect to the King, i found myself goin bak
n wide open arms swung around each others shoulders
the boys found themselves bak in the platoon of soldiers.

ther once again, the lights turned down low
after a few glasses on the table, we ordered few more.
a night to remember , we had promised ourselves,
lil did we kno how it was all gonna end.

n we decided to treat our ears to sum fusion
all da way to the otherside , we found ourselves headin.
the day turned to night , and so did my mind.
i felt a violent numbness.. the most violent of a kind.

n inside i saw the million shades of blue,
the unforgivin power of a cannabinoid n the '-OH' group
in fact the concoction had the better of us earlier
way earlier before, while the metal Maiden played trooper.

i found myself lost , in the seamless seas of hues
wher red turned to green n black turned to blue
n while down the imploding spiral, i was falling,
a much needed, reassuring voice i heard calling

The King stood ther with his lethal axe in hand
lending out the same to his fallen, frail fellowman.
Asking 'hey boi, do you wanna head bak to Base?'
to which i replied 'Sir please get me outta this place'

n among the wilderness of wicked eyes we lay
being cursed n dissected by evil looks in vile ways
but true to his title, the king stood tall
silencing the wicked , he brought about their fall

all the time, while his fallen brother stumbled
the Steadfast King , marched on n a convoy he summoned.
n once in the car, his brother's carcass, he kept
the skeptics were vanquished, the wounded soundly slept.

n the next thing i kno, i'm miles away at base,
along ther with the king was the the bassist's face.
n we spoke nostalgia, to the early hours of mornin
all the while i prayed for the world to stop whirlin.

den the men became watchers , over their naive, junior comrade
and guided him to his farewell in wee morning hours
he was off to obliviousness , in a town far away
wonderin wat the hell happened jus the previous day.

he dreamed away on the long, journey over the distance
shaking his head to refresh his memory system
n a few days later he called HQ for a report
n he heard the kings voice who kept it sweet n short

'Every SL trip shud be like this dude,
u got out everythn .. includin the previous days food'
i thanked God for the creation of sucha selfless man
a handful can compare to wat only he can.

A band of brethren, a fellowship of fellas
a platoon of soldiers, a team of players
good principles n values, for doing wat is right,
the few simple buggers of the larger than life... Sunlight.
